Aichi Shukutoku University

Bachelor in Dept. of Global Communication

Aichi, Japan Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Aichi Shukutoku University's Department of Global Communication offers an English-based bachelor's degree in Aichi, completed over four years with an April start. The university was established in 1975 as a women's university and became co-educational in 1995, adopting a philosophy of celebrating diversity across gender, age, and nationality; it now includes 12 faculties, 6 graduate schools, and a Center for Japanese Language and Culture, spread across campuses in Nagoya and Nagakute, the latter with an on-campus international house residence. Global communication as an undergraduate field typically combines communication theory, media studies, linguistics, and intercultural studies, preparing students to analyze and produce communication across languages and cultures. Coursework commonly covers topics such as media production, public relations, translation and interpretation basics, sociolinguistics, and international business communication, often supported by language study and study-abroad or exchange opportunities. Programs like this generally build both language proficiency and analytical skills, since graduates are expected to operate comfortably in more than one linguistic and cultural context. Career paths for global communication graduates include roles in media and publishing, public relations and marketing, international business, translation and interpretation, tourism, and education, along with further study at the graduate level. The admissions process for this program reflects its bilingual orientation, combining a Japanese-language requirement, through either the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students or JLPT N2, with flexible English proficiency options that include CEFR-referenced qualifications such as Cambridge English, EIKEN, and GTEC scores. This structure suits students who already have some Japanese-language ability and want to build further bilingual communication skills, within the Aichi region, a major industrial and business center in central Japan.
