Students complete coursework, a semester of student teaching, clinical evaluations, a portfolio, and demonstrate language proficiency to meet Wisconsin DPI licensing requirements. The program uses an anti-racist, strength-based approach to prepare educators for teaching multilingual learners in dual-language settings. Coursework includes observation, assessment, and designing instruction based on language development theories. Classes are delivered in a hybrid format with eight-week accelerated sessions and three synchronous meetings per course.

Focus areas include Second Language Acquisition, Biliteracy Development, Language Analysis & Bilingualism, Dual Language Instruction, Anti-Racist Pedagogy, Translanguaging.

The program requires 18 credits of licensure coursework, including student teaching and a portfolio. These credits can be applied toward a Master of Arts in Education in Bilingual Education, which requires 33 credits total with five additional 3-credit courses.

Graduates work as licensed bilingual educators in K-12 schools, teaching subjects in two languages within dual-language or immersion programs.

Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA and possess a Wisconsin DPI initial, professional, or master educator license. Official transcripts and a written statement of intent are required. International students must contact the graduate office for additional requirements.

The programme totals about 18 credit hours. Hybrid, full-time or part-time, typically completed in 12 months. For international students, tuition is below the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 95% of applicants.

Edgewood College sits beside Lake Wingra in a quiet residential neighborhood of Madison, Wisconsin, with access to downtown, coffee shops, restaurants, events, bike trails, and outdoor activities.
