Students take nine courses focused on Asia, choosing a regional emphasis in China, Japan, South and Southeast Asia, or a comparative and transregional approach. They engage with Asia through interdisciplinary coursework in arts and humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences and mathematics. The program requires at least four upper-level courses and encourages language study. Students design a personalized academic path with guidance from an adviser.

The major requires nine courses: one introductory course and eight electives. Five electives must focus on the declared regional emphasis. At least four electives must be at the 300- or 400-level, and courses must span at least two academic divisions.

Graduates pursue careers in international relations, education, research, non-profit work, and government service with a focus on Asian regions.
