Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf

Master in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

Düsseldorf, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is a two-year Master's programme that focuses on the theoretical foundations of AI and data science and their application to real-world problems. Core areas include machine learning, with a strong emphasis on deep learning, and students can direct their studies through elective courses toward specific research areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, or the analysis of biological and medical data. Over 4 semesters starting in the winter semester, all students complete four compulsory courses — Advanced Programming and Algorithms, Machine Learning, Mathematical and Statistical Foundations of Data Science, and Deep Learning — alongside two lab rotations of six weeks each in which they carry out practical work with research groups inside or outside HHU or in industrial R&D environments. Students also select around six to seven elective courses from a broad catalogue before completing the Master's thesis and thesis seminar. Graduates of the programme develop a solid understanding of the mathematical and statistical foundations of AI research, command of current algorithms, and the skills to conduct research in academic or R&D environments and to identify AI-based solutions to data-driven problems in industry. All instruction is in English at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf.
