Veterinary science at the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences is offered as a PhD programme, taught in English over four years, in Wroclaw. Together with foreign partners, it carries out research relating to innovative technologies in production, food safety, biological and environmental medicine, clinical veterinary medicine, pre-clinical trials on animal models, climate change, sustainable farming systems including horticulture, alternative energy sources, environmental protection methods, and global satellite-assisted observation. The research work at UPWr is oriented around a single goal: to change the surrounding world in harmony with the principles of peaceful coexistence and sustainable development. The UPWr Doctoral School provides training in the scientific discipline of veterinary science, with possible research subjects including veterinary medicine, production animals, companion animals, wild animals, endangered species, animal physiology and pathology, animal diseases, epizootiology, microbiology, innovative diagnostic tools, modern surgical techniques, innovative therapies, clinical prophylaxis and immunology, molecular studies, pharmacology, assisted reproductive techniques, food safety, livestock production, and genetic engineering, as well as experimental oncology. A PhD in veterinary science trains researchers to design and carry out independent studies within a specific area of animal health, disease, or production, working closely with a faculty supervisor over the course of the degree. Graduates of doctoral programmes in this field typically pursue careers in academic research, veterinary and agricultural research institutes, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and specialised clinical or diagnostic roles that call for advanced expertise in a chosen area of veterinary science.
