Master in MSc Integrated Immunology (iImmune)

Erlangen, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The MSc Integrated Immunology (iImmune) at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is a four-semester research-oriented programme starting in the winter semester, initiated jointly by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine. Its central aim is to integrate basic and clinical immunology training, addressing the growing burden of infectious diseases, autoimmune conditions, and allergic diseases in an ageing society. The first semester introduces basic immunology through lectures, seminars, and tutorials, along with an integrated laboratory course and modules in cell and molecular biology. Students can also take elective soft skills courses in areas such as imaging, bioinformatics, computer programming, or ethics of science. The second semester focuses on translational immunology through a similar structure, and includes a clinical immunology course with bedside visits. The third semester involves practical project work through laboratory rotations in Erlangen and an organised three-month placement in an international immunology laboratory abroad, along with a written theoretical report and presentation. The fourth semester is dedicated to the master's thesis. The programme is also open to medical students, and the inclusion of clinical modules enables a bench-to-bedside approach for students with a biology background. The programme is offered at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg in Erlangen, Germany.
