Master in Mining and engineering geology

Mining and Engineering Geology, with a specialization in Mining Engineering, is a master's program at AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, taught in English over three semesters, equivalent to one and a half years including the writing of the master's thesis. Students engage with modern subjects in mining technology, covering coal and ore mining underground, open pit mining, and salt mining, together with mechanization, geomechanics, blasting techniques, and natural threats such as rock bursting, roof falls, underground fire prevention, and methane control, alongside the geological background behind them. With access to current software and computing resources, students simulate mining conditions through numerical modelling, and the program also builds knowledge of mining economics and of organization and management within the mining industry. Students learn modern mining technologies using computer techniques and visit operating Polish mines as part of their studies. Graduates are prepared to work in underground and opencast coal mines, mines extracting metal ores, salt, and other minerals, and in other mining plants handling mineral raw materials, as well as in companies working on underground construction. The program gives graduates the qualifications needed to hold top management positions in a mine, and graduates can also find employment in research and scientific centers serving the mining industry.
