About the Program

The Master's in Speech and Language Processing at the University of Konstanz is a four-semester programme structured around two tracks: Human Language Processing (HLP) and Machine Language Processing (MLP). Both tracks share core foundational and methodological courses, but students are expected to concentrate in one track by selecting most of their courses from it. All courses in both tracks address theory and practice, and competence in statistical methods and programming is a mandatory component of the degree. The programme is organised into eight modules. Core modules cover areas of linguistics, methods, foundations, machine language processing, human language processing, and practical or experimental applications. A neighbouring areas module allows students to take courses in related fields such as computer science or psychology. The programme concludes with a Master's thesis and oral examination. Students are encouraged to pursue internships, either outside the university in industry or academia, or within the university through the dedicated practical module. The programme admits students in both winter and summer semesters and is taught in English. It is based at the University of Konstanz in Konstanz, Germany.
