Bremen, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The BSc in Marine Geosciences at the University of Bremen provides a scientifically grounded understanding of Earth System science with a focus on the oceans. The programme addresses questions related to rising sea levels, CO2 storage in the ocean, and the consequences of deep-sea mining, training students to think about urgent marine and environmental challenges. The six-semester programme, available from both the winter and summer semesters, is divided into two main phases. Basic training in the first three semesters covers fundamentals in mathematics and natural sciences as well as the foundations of marine geosciences. In the specialisation phase spanning semesters four to six, students choose three out of seven subject areas: sedimentology, palaeontology, geoinformatics, geochemistry, palaeoceanography, geodynamics, and exploration geophysics. Throughout the programme, students develop complementary competencies through field trips, ship-based training, digital skills including programming, modelling, and GIS, internships, and language or legal courses. The programme concludes with a Bachelor's thesis. The programme is offered at the University of Bremen in Bremen, Germany.
