Master in Korean English Interpretation and Translation

Korean English Interpretation and Translation is a master's program built around the practice and theory of moving meaning between two languages under real-world conditions. Students train in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation techniques, written translation across genres such as legal, business, and media texts, and the study of translation theory and cross-cultural communication. Coursework typically develops skills in note-taking, terminology management, editing, and the ethical responsibilities that come with representing a speaker's or writer's intent accurately in another language. Because instruction is delivered in English, students refine their command of both English and Korean while working through applied assignments and simulated interpreting scenarios rather than relying solely on lecture-based learning. Graduates pursue careers as conference interpreters, translators, localization specialists, and language consultants for government agencies, international organizations, publishing houses, and multinational companies operating between Korean- and English-speaking markets. Some continue into academic research on translation studies or bilingual education, while others move into fields such as diplomacy, journalism, or international business where precise bilingual communication is essential. The program is hosted by Handong Global University in Pohang, South Korea, and runs for four to six semesters. New cohorts can begin their studies in either February or March, giving applicants some flexibility in planning their start date. Through combined coursework and practical exercises, students leave with both the linguistic control and professional judgment needed to work as intermediaries between Korean and English speakers in demanding settings.
