About the Program

The Doctoral Programme of Humans and Technologies (DPHAT) educates researchers who study the relationships between people, knowledge and technology. The programme has a strong multidisciplinary dimension and draws on expertise from computer science and information studies through to psychology and sociology. Three research fields are available within the programme. Human-Technology Interaction research addresses novel technology-mediated systems and applications, including multimodal interaction, virtual reality, social robots, autonomous vehicles, human-centred AI, user experience, and the societal and ethical dimensions of digital technology. Information Studies addresses four areas within information science. A third research field covers related thematic directions within the programme's broad scope. The programme runs for four years from September 2026 and prepares students for research, R&D and specialist careers involving human-centred approaches to technology.
