Master in Digital Media and Society

Bremen, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The MA in Digital Media and Society at the University of Bremen is a two-year, English-language programme examining how digitalisation and datafication are transforming media, communication, and society. It aims to qualify students for media planning and decision-making positions in organisations operating in datafied environments. The programme runs over four semesters. The first semester builds a shared conceptual understanding of digital media and datafied society, with initial orientation in digital media practice. The second semester centres on digital methods, including a methods-training module and the beginning of a two-semester research seminar in which students develop an empirical project. The third semester focuses on research practice, with data collection and analysis, an independent study project, in-depth study of digital literacy, and media practice placements. The fourth semester is focused on completing the Master's thesis and its defence. Cross-disciplinary elective modules draw from computer sciences and other disciplines, and the programme includes hands-on engagement with the regional media industry. The programme is based at the University of Bremen in Bremen, Germany.
