About the Program

Communication engineering is a branch of electrical engineering concerned with the transmission, processing, and reception of information over wired and wireless systems, covering topics such as signal processing, telecommunications networks, information theory, and electromagnetic wave propagation. Students in this field study how data, voice, and video signals are encoded, transmitted, and decoded across communication channels, along with the design of the hardware and software systems that make modern networks function, including antennas, transceivers, and network protocols. Coursework typically combines mathematical foundations in signals and systems with more applied study of network architecture, wireless communication, and digital signal processing. At the graduate level, a program of this kind is generally intended for students who already hold an undergraduate background in electrical engineering, communication engineering, or a related field, with study involving more specialized coursework in areas such as wireless systems, optical communication, or network design, along with a research or thesis component supervised by faculty. Graduates of a master's program in communication engineering pursue careers in the telecommunications industry, network engineering, semiconductor and electronics companies, and research and development roles in wireless and optical communication technologies, along with the option to continue into doctoral study. The Department of Communication Engineering at National Central University, located in Northern Taiwan, offers this master's program with instruction in English, giving international students access to graduate-level study in communication engineering in an English-language academic environment.
