Bachelor in Composition and musical theory

The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland offers this Bachelor's program in Composition and Musical Theory, taught in English over three years, with yearly tuition of EUR 5500. The Academy, founded in 1929, is located in a neo-Gothic building and hosts concerts, master classes, workshops, competitions, and conferences at both national and international levels alongside its teaching activities. Its organizational structure consists of two departments: the Composition, Interpretation, Education and Jazz Department, and the Vocal-Instrumental Department. Fields of study offered across the Academy include composition and music theory, conducting, artistic education in music, jazz, instrumental performance, vocal performance, and church music. Since the 2011/2012 academic year, the Academy has offered paid studies in selected specialties taught in English. Faculty include pianists Prof. Andrzej Jasiński, Józef Stompel, and Wojciech Świtała, harpist Prof. Helga Storck, guitarist Prof. Alina Gruszka, organist Prof. Julian Gembalski, harpsichordist Prof. Marek Toporowski, accordionist Prof. Joachim Pichura, and cellist Prof. Paweł Głombik, as well as musicians from the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. Composition and musical theory as a discipline trains students in the craft of writing original music alongside the analytical study of harmony, form, counterpoint, and musical history. At the bachelor's level, students build foundational technical skills in composition and theory before specializing further. Graduates typically move into further music study, composition work, teaching, or roles connected to performance and arts organizations, applying both the creative and analytical sides of their training.
