Master in Biomedical engineering

Poznań, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Biomedical Engineering is a master's degree program taught in English at Poznan University of Technology in Poznań, Poland, with a duration described as 3 semesters - 1,5 year. Studies start in February each year. The first semester concentrates on subjects common to the whole program: biomechanical modeling and simulation, orthopedic and rehabilitation engineering, pathobiomechanics, testing of biomaterials and tissues, and modern technologies in medicine and biomedical engineering, including bionics and virtual engineering, telemedicine, and virtual reality. In the second semester, students expand their knowledge of biomaterials, covering biopolymers, biocomposites, and surface engineering, along with medical image processing and operating room and medical office equipment. Students then choose one of three specializations: Medical and Rehabilitation Devices, Engineering of Implants and Prostheses, or Bionics and Virtual Engineering, with specialization subjects delivered across the second and third semesters, alongside elective courses tied to each specialization. The final semester focuses on laser applications in medicine along with further specialization subjects, and students prepare a master's thesis connected to their chosen specialization while also completing elective courses in the humanities or social sciences, physical education, and a foreign language. Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary field of study, and graduates receive the title Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering. Graduates are prepared to work alongside doctors, physical therapists, and other medical professionals, applying advanced technologies within medical settings and contributing to the design and use of biomedical devices. The field draws together mechanical and electrical engineering with anatomy, physiology, and materials science, and graduates typically move into roles in medical device development, hospital technology support, rehabilitation engineering, or further graduate study in biomedical or clinical engineering.
